With great risk comes great reward, even if it's at the cost of your beloved new candles. All in all, these are some great changes that are well in the spirit of the Darkest Dungeon experience. On the whole, easier encounters have seen their loot nerfed, while more difficult combats will provide greater rewards. Lastly, shambler loot will now reward two mastery and a chance at otherwordly fragments. Creature den loot received the same changes but will no longer reward trinkets. On the buffs side of battle loot, lair boss fights are now guaranteed to provide a combat item and a rest item and also have an additional bonus treasure draw. Lair pre-wave fights have also seen their loot slightly nerfed.
Just as well, cultist ambushes at zero torch light no longer provide any loot since they are meant to be avoided in the first place.

Mastery rewards have been reduced so that you might not be able to upgrade all hero skills to the max before reaching the mountain, food can no longer be looted from battles, and road combat loot has been lessened.

Candle unlocks already earned and spent will be saved for future journeys, providing you with a better and better chance to conquer the darkness with each run.
